CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Chester University men's tennis team competed at the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional over the weekend.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The event, hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan, ran from Friday through Sunday with matches taking place between the Charleston Kanawha City Tennis Complex, the Charleston Tennis Club, and Charleston Catholic High School. The field consisted of 75 players from 11 different NCAA Division II programs, with the winners of each draw qualifying for the Oracle/ITA DII National Tournament, which is part of the ITA's Small College national playoff which takes place in Rome, Georgia from October 11-17.
WEST CHESTER RUNDOWN
- The Golden Rams featured two pairings that advanced to the semifinals of their respective brackets, with the duo of freshman Chris Succi (YARDLEY, PA/PENNSBURG HIGH SCHOOL) and junior Devin Paulison (MILFORD, PA/DELAWARE VALLEY) going all the way to the semifinals of the "A" consolation bracket, while the tandem of sophomore Gavin Kenny (HANOVER, PA/SOUTH WESTERN) and freshman Noah DeCampo (LITTLESTOWN, PA/LITTLESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL) landed in the semifinals of the "B" back draw bracket.
- Individually, the Golden Rams did not log a victory in any singles matches across their two days in West Virginia.
Doubles
- The duo Succi/Paulison dropped their first match of the event 8-2 to Bluefield State's Arthur Figuiere/Frederik Baumadsen, before claiming the 8-5 victory over West Virginia State's Mullens/Fulks in the opening match of the "A" draw consolation bracket. The tandem went to on to square off against the team of Joao Lucas Alves/Guilherme Pachane from Fairmont State in the "A" consolation semifinals, where the WCU duo would fall 8-0 to end their time in Charleston.
- Kenny/DeCampo dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision in their opening match against West Virginia State's Zach Fraley/Nicholas Fraley and then went into the "B" consolation quarterfinals where the duo defeated Charleston's Michael Phillips/Jason Price, 8-6. The West Chester duos weekend ended in the semifinals, as the tandem bowed out 8-1 against eventual "B" consolation winners Akira Kawabata/Camilo Moncayo from West Liberty.
