WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Looking to get back on track following a tough 1-0 defeat the No. 12 West Chester University women's soccer team (6-1-1, 5-1-1 PSAC) was back in action on Wednesday afternoon against No. 11 Kutztown (7-2-0, 5-2-0 PSAC). West Chester used a first half goal to hang on for a pivotal victory over its PSAC rival.
How it Happened:
- In the 21st minute, Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) netted the first goal of the game and her first goal of the season off an assist from Hannah Grandell (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.
- This lead proved to be enough as the West Chester defense led by senior goalkeeper McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) who made five big saves on the afternoon managed to keep the always dangerous Kutztown offense off the scoreboard.
Inside the Numbers:
- West Chester outshot Kutztown by a margin of 7-3 including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- At the end of regulation shots were and corners were both even at 9 total shots along with five corners and five shots on goal for each side.
- Kutztown goalie Jenna Bracken worked hard throughout the match making four impressive saves but it was not enough to avoid her second loss of the 2018 campaign.
- This victory creates a new shutout streak for the Golden Rams as they have now gone 118 minutes since the last goal they allowed.
- This victory also helps West Chester avoid a losing streak to Kutztown as the Golden Rams exacted their revenge for a 2-0 loss to Kutztown in 2017.
