WEST CHESTER, Pa.- On the heels of a tough 2-1 loss to Bloomsburg the West Chester University men's soccer team (5-2-2) returned home to face another non-conference opponent in Holy Family (4-6-0). West Chester captured the victory by a final score of 4-1.
How it Happened:
- In the first half, Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) opened the scoring when he took an assist from Kendall Walkes (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) to give the Golden Rams the 1-0.
- In the 59th minute, West Chester extended its lead as Jason Pixley (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) took an assist from Thompson to make the score 2-0 in favor of West Chester. Just seconds later Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) extended the lead with a great kick from way out over the goalkeeper to give West Chester the 3-0 lead.Â
- Holy Family got one back when Joel Richmond struck from the far corner of the box to cut the deficit to 3-1 but another goal from Goitia off an assist from Thompson restored West Chester's three-goal advantage making the score 4-1.Â
Inside the Numbers:
- West Chester outshot its guests by a 15-6 margin including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester also ended the game with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.Â
- Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) had a relatively easy day in the goal making just one save in the victory while his counterpart Matt Tobin made three nice saves to try and keep West Chester off the scoreboard.Â
