Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 16 West Chester Edged by Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J.-The No. 16 West Chester University men's soccer team (1-1) took to the road on Monday afternoon to take on another non-conference opponent hailing from the CACC in the Lions of Georgian Court (GCU) (2-1). West Chester fell to Georgian Court by a final score of 1-0 on Monday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • Georgian Court came roaring out of the gates outshooting West Chester by a 7-3 margin in the first half of play.
  • In the 35th minute, one of these seven shots managed to find its way into the goal as Louis Silva scored what would prove to be the game-winner off a well-timed thru ball from teammate Daniel Vicente.
  • In the second half, West Chester became the more aggressive team as the Golden Rams uncorked seven shots compared to just three shots from the Lions of Georgian Court. Unfortunately, only one of these shots managed to find its way on goal and it was handled by Georgian Court goalie Jamie Hickey for one of his two saves of the day.
  • James Wood (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) made a save of his own but it was not enough to prevent Georgian Court from pulling off the upset for the second year in a row.
Inside the Numbers:
  • At the end of the game, the shots were even at 10 apiece and each team took two shots on goal. West Chester held a slight edge in corner kicks for the second game in a row this time edging its hosts by a 7-6 margin.
  • Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) led the team and tied Louis Silva for the game-high in shots with three. Goitia tied for the team lead in shots on goal with Eric Greer (Chadds Ford, Pa.) as both Goitia and Greer managed to take one shot on goal both of which were saved by the GCU goalie Hickey.
Up Next:
West Chester will be back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action against another CACC foe in Wilmington with that contest beginning at 4 p.m.
