No. 23 West Chester Defeats East Stroudsburg in Pouring Rain

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Rain came down as Shane Hartey (Runnemede, N.J. / Triton Hall) scored two goals and the No. 20-ranked West Chester Golden Rams beat the East Stroudsburg Warriors, 4-1, on Wednesday.

West Chester improved to 8-2-1 (5-1-1 PSAC), slotting the team in second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's East Division.

How it happened:
  • Nine minutes into the match, with rain pouring down, Matt Stevenson (Lansdale, PA / Pennridge) sent the ball into the penalty box from 40 yards out, where Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, PA / Pocono Mountain East) redirected the ball with a header into the back of the net. | WCU 1-0
  • Ten minutes later, Stevenson found the ball again, this time at the top of the East Stroudsburg box, and he chipped the ball over the keeper's head and into the back of the net to increase the Golden Rams' lead. | WCU 2-0
  • With 10 minutes to go in the first half, the Golden Rams found themselves on a breakaway as Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley) connected with Hartey at midfield. Hartey marched downfield past two defenders and beat the Warriors' keeper for his first goal of the day. | WCU 3-0
  • The rain intensified as the match entered the second half, with the Golden Rams up 3-0.
  • East Stroudsburg scored in the 75th minute, cutting West Chester's lead to 3-1. | WCU 3-1
  • Two minutes later, the ball was floating out of bounds at midfield as Josh Daniels (Fleetwood, PA / Oley Valley) sent the ball downfield, finding Hartey, who took the ball the rest of the way and scored his second goal of the match. | WCU 4-1
