West Chester Completes Homestand With Loss To Clarion

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University volleyball lost at Hollinger Field House in three sets against Clarion University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Capping off their weekend-long Dig Pink event to support breast cancer research, the Golden Rams dropped to 14-9 on the season and 2-8 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matches. The Golden Eagles are 13-8 overall and 5-4 in conference matches.

How it happened:

• The first set saw several lead changes early on as sophomore Julia Vreeswyk (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) gave West Chester a 10-9 lead with a kill. However, Clarion scored seven of the next eight points to separate itself and eventually win 25-16.
• The Golden Eagles kept their foot on the gas, jumping out to an 11-5 lead in the second set and ultimately win that one 25-16.
• The third set was a battle. West Chester trailed 24-21 before rattling off four straight points. Senior Rachel Robb (Blackwood, N.J. / Paul VI) gave the Golden Rams a 25-24 lead, but they failed to keep momentum and lost it 29-27.

Inside the numbers:

• Freshman Jillian Borgerding (Highlands Ranch, Colo. / Highlands Ranch) led West Chester in assists (20) and digs (9) in the defeat.
• Robb had six kills with a .429 hitting percentage, and Vreeswyk had a team-high eight kills while hitting .238.
