WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Second-ranked West Chester University shut out visiting Slippery Rock University, 5-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey match at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (8-0, 3-0 PSAC) remained unbeaten on the season by registering its fifth straight shut out win. Slippery Rock fell to 2-8 overall 0-3 in the conference.
How it Happened:
*
Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) and
Riley Baughman (McCungie, Pa./Emmaus) each scored a pair of goals to fuel a second-half explosion. Baughman's goals came five minutes apart and gave the hosts a two-goal cushion, after the Golden Rams carried a slim 1-0 lead into halftime. Thompson opened the game by flicking a rebound up into the top corner of the goal in the first quarter. That is how the game stood until the third. She later made it a 4-0 game at the end of the third quarter.
*
Emily Ingalls (Zionsville, Pa./Emmaus) recorded a pair of assists in the game as well.
*
Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) picked up her fifth consecutive shutout to improve her record to 8-0 on the season in the cage. She upped her consecutive shutout streak to 320 minutes and 39 seconds.
West Chester returns to Vonnie Gros Field on Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest against New Haven.
