Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 14 West Chester Shuts Out Shippensburg, 3-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - No. 14-ranked West Chester men's soccer defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division rival Shippensburg University 3-0 on Saturday. The win gives West Chester a 7-1-1 record (4-0-1 in conference).

How it happened:
  • Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa. / Mountain East) scored his third goal of the season to give West Chester the lead in the 24th minute. Matt Stevenson (Lansdale, PA / Pennridge) tallied the assist on the goal.
  • The Golden Rams increased their lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute as Brett Miller (Washington Crossing, Pa. / Council Rock North) scored his first goal of the season.
  • Daniel Grindrod (Neshaminy / Feasterville, PA) sealed the deal in the 58th minute, scoring his second goal of the season. His goal was set up off of a corner kick from Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley), who recorded the assist. 
Inside the numbers:
  • Grindrod has now scored a goal in the past two contests.
  • Junior goalkeeper Drew Fink (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) made his first collegiate appearance in net today for the Golden Rams, taking over for Daniel Good (Exton, PA / Downingtown East) in the 72nd minute. The two keepers combined for West Chester's fourth shutout of the season.
  • West Chester is now 7-1-2 in their last ten matches against Shippensburg, dating back to 2011.
