Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Cruises To 3-0 Start With 98-85 Win Over Holy Family

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University men's basketball has won its first three games of the 2019-20 season after defeating non-conference opponent Holy Family University 98-85 on Monday at Hollinger Field House.

Led by freshman Robbie Heath's (Whittlesea, Australia / Abington) 26 points, WCU's only deficit in the game was 2-0. The Golden Rams took a lead that they'd never give up when sophomore Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa. / Hazelton Area) drilled a three just 1:36 into the game to give his team a 3-2 advantage.

Samec, who saw limited time on the floor during his freshman season, had a breakout performance on Monday. He grabbed 11 rebounds and dropped 20 points, making 6-of-9 shots from beyond the three-point arc.

West Chester took a comfortable 42-34 lead into half after junior Antoine Lewis (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) knocked down his fourth three-pointer of the half to close it out. He finished with an early season high of 18 points, going 4-for-8 from three.

The Golden Rams erupted for 56 points in the second half, falling two shy of reaching 100 points of the second game in a row. The Golden Rams beat Lincoln University 113-91 on November 9, scoring their most points in a game since 1989.

Sophomore Marcus Littles (Philadelphia / Neumann Goretti) joined Samec as a double-digit rebounder against the Tigers with 10 of his own. West Chester outrebounded Holy Family 50-38 in the win.

West Chester has one more non-conference battle before Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play as it takes on Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Hollinger Field House again. The Golden Rams follow that up with PSAC competition at Gannon University and Clarion University on Saturday and Sunday. Both games begin at 3 p.m.
