Elder and McKenzie Garner ECAC Monthly Honors

DANBURY, Conn. - West Chester University football took home two Athlete of the Month awards from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior defensive back Jarey Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was named the Defensive Player of the Month, and freshman running back Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield-Delco) was named Rookie of the Month.

Elder was a vital part of the Golden Rams' defense in the month of October, recording two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two pass break ups. On top of the turnovers, Elder had 40 tackles and two tackles for loss.

McKenzie continues to add to his successful freshman season as West Chester's leading rusher. He picked up 413 yards on 80 carries and scored four touchdowns this month. The freshman averaged over 100 yards per game.

The Golden Rams, currently 7-2, have two games left on their regular season schedule, and they remain hopeful that they'll land a spot in the NCAA Tournament. They travel to Lock Haven on Saturday to face off with the Bald Eagles in a PSAC East matchup at 1 p.m. West Chester will host PSAC West opponent California University of Pennsylvania in its last home game of the season on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
