WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University women's soccer played to a 0-0 tie with No. 6-ranked Bloomsburg University at Rockwell Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (11-3-2 overall, 10-3-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) outshot the Huskies (15-1-1, 13-1-1) 22-4 in the scoreless match. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament as West Chester sits comfortably in fourth place in the Eastern Division while Bloomsburg has first locked up.
How it happened:
- West Chester had perhaps its best chance of the game on a penalty kick in the 40th minute that was the result of a Bloomsburg handball in the box. The PK attempt was struck hard off the crossbar and deflected back into play.
- With two seconds remaining in regulation, WCU senior Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown East) sent a promising shot on goal from 18 yards out that Bloomsburg goalkeeper Jenna Hawkins rejected.
- In the first overtime, Bloomsburg's Megan Callan was on a breakaway with no defenders in front of her. West Chester senior goalie Brooke Myers (Hershey, Pa. / Middletown) confronted her 10 yards out from the goal to make a strong save.
- In the 105th minute, Bloomsburg had what might be considered its best opportunity when Paige Harris directed a shot toward the goal from point-blank range that hit one of her teammates and prevented it from going in.
Inside the numbers:
- Eight of West Chester's shots were on goal, and four of Bloomsburg's shots were on goal.
- The Golden Rams had seven corner kicks, and the Huskies had one.
- WCU junior Hannah Zach (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) led all players in the game with three shots on goal. She is West Chester's leading scorer this season with 10 goals.
