WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Searching for its first win of the season to open the 2019-2020 season the West Chester University women's basketball team (0-1) was in action for their first game of the season on Saturday. West Chester, behind in the first quarter was able to keep the game tied and led at some points but it was not enough to get past Urbana (OH.) (1-0). The Golden Rams lost to the

Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame) had 16 points and 7 rebounds for the Golden Rams in her first collegiate career game. She also led all scorers in the first game of the season for both teams. Johnson had a team-high of 33 minutes played.
The Golden Rams took the first quarter to warm-up only scoring 11 points at the end of the quarter compared to Urbana's 14 points. The Blue Knights led through the second and third quarter, until a basket on a fast break from
Kyra Jefferson (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) tied the game at 37-37. The Golden Rams took the lead for the first time in the game with three minutes to spare in the third, with a three-pointer from
Leah Johnson. West Chester entered the fourth quarter leading the Blue Knights, 45-43. Within the last minute of the game, the Golden Rams began to lose the momentum to Urbana, with two baskets from Tyra James to make the score, 59-55. After five lead changes in the fourth quarter and two tied scores, the Golden Rams fell to the Blue Knights, 63-59.
West Chester will play its second match in the Carol Eckman against Glenville State at 2 p.m. in Hollinger Fieldhouse. Glenville State played today against fellow Pennsylvania Athletic State Conference opponent, Millersville University. The Pioneers of Glenville State were able to put 137 points on the board against Millersville earlier on Saturday afternoon.
