Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Heath Scores 35, West Chester Off To 11-0 Start

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University men's basketball freshman Robbie Heath scored 35 points, and the No. 14-ranked Golden Rams improved to 11-0 on the year with a 100-82 victory over Slippery Rock University at Hollinger Field House on Saturday night.

It was the third time this season that WCU (11-0 overall, 5-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) reached 100 points in game. West Chester only reached 100 points in a game once last season.

Heath returned from a one-game injury absence on Saturday and raised his scoring average to 25.1 per game, expanding his lead atop the PSAC. He's second in scoring among freshmen across all levels of NCAA basketball behind Division III's Shion Darby of Rhode Island College, who is scoring 28.6 on average.

Heath led the team with 10 rebounds against The Rock to record his second double-double in a row. He's leading the Golden Rams with 7.9 boards per contest.

The Golden Rams took a 6-5 advantage on a three by sophomore Josh Samec (Trecksow, Pa. / Hazelton Area) just 2:20 into the start of the game and never looked back. West Chester's largest lead was 23 points with 13:52 left in the second half.

WCU senior Malik Jackson eclipsed the 20-point mark for the second night in a row with 21 against SRU, increasing his season average to 17.9. Jackson moved into seventh on West Chester men's basketball's all-time scoring list on Saturday. He has 1,524 career points.

Samec went 5-for-5 from three-point range, and freshman Kyle McGee (Jersey City, N.J. / St. Mary's of the Assumption) went 3-for-3 as the two of them chipped in with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

The Golden Rams went 29-for-32 as a team from the free throw line in the victory. Heath was 13-for-13, and he played 39 of the game's 40 minutes.

West Chester is one win away from tying the program record for most consecutive wins to start a season, which was set in 2017-18. The longest win streak in program history happened last season when the Golden Rams won 15 in a row during the middle part of the 2018-19 campaign.

West Chester will take its shot at 12-0 after the holiday break against another PSAC opponent in Shepherd University on January 3 at 7:30 p.m.
