WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Down 49-40 to Mercyhurst University with 7:11 left in the fourth quarter, West Chester University women's basketball went on an 11-3 run over the next 5:31 but couldn't fully close the gap. The Golden Rams lost 57-55.

The Lakers (3-5 overall, 3-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) went 1-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 31 seconds, but the Golden Rams (3-5, 1-2) didn't capitalize. It was a close one throughout as the game was never separated by more than nine points.

Katherine Fisher (Rutledge, Pa. / Strath Haven) played a team-high 37 minutes and led West Chester with 19 points, raising her season average to 12.1. Fisher also led all rebounders in the game with eight.

WCU freshman
Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. She only turned the ball over once in 36 minutes on the court.

West Chester's perimeter defense nearly led the team to victory. The Golden Rams held the Lakers to two makes from three-point range on 14 attempts.

WCU had 12 days off before playing Mercyhurst, and it will have another 12-day break before welcoming California University of Pennsylvania to Hollinger Field House on December 20 at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Rams also have a home game against Slippery Rock University on December 21 at 5:30 p.m.
