Softball Edged by Slippery Rock

CLERMONT, Fl.- The West Chester University softball squad (10-8) continued its Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State on Thursday morning opposite Slippery Rock (5-10). Slippery Rock pulled off a late inning comeback to defeat the Golden Rams by a final score of 3-2.

How it Happened:

Maseth scored moments later via an RBI single from Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • Slippery Rock answered back with a run of its own during the home half of the third to trim the deficit to just 2-1.
  • In the fifth inning, Slippery Rock threatened to even the score with runners on first and second with two outs but Maegen Kavanagh (Easton, Pa./Easton) who entered in relief of Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) registered a clutch strikeout to preserve the Golden Rams slim one-run lead heading to the sixth.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Leah Vith registered a two-RBI single down the left field line to lift Slippery Rock to the 3-2 comeback victory.
