Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Slippery Rock 17-3 to Open PSAC Play

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- On a blustery March afternoon, No. 4 West Chester (3-1, 1-0 PSAC) opened its PSAC slate on Saturday afternoon opposite Slippery Rock (1-3, 0-1 PSAC). West Chester played well throughout to roll to a convincing 17-3 victory over the Rock.

How it Happened:
  • Emily Schulze (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) opened the scoring just under four minutes into the contest to give West Chester a 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams proceeded to register the next three goals as Maggie Stella (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), Devon Mela (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), and Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) also found the back of the net in the opening 10 minutes of play to earn a 4-0 run.
  • Slippery Rock answered back with a goal of its own at the 18:39 mark to cut the deficit to 4-1. West Chester closed the half of a 5-0 run to make the score 9-1 heading to the halftime break.
  • Rock opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the second half, which cut the lead to 9-2 before the Golden Rams went on an 8-1 run, which allowed West Chester to earn the 17-3 victory over PSAC Rival Slippery Rock.
Inside the Box Score:
  • Stella and Drew McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) each registered three goals while Schulze, Ryan McKinney, Mela, and Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) each registered a pair of goals of their own. Additionally, Kasey Kelly (Windsor, N.J./Notre Dame), Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), and Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) also found the back of the net in the victory.
  • Altman ended the contest as the leader in points as she also registered a game-high four assists to finish the afternoon with six points to her credit. Schulze also recorded a pair of assists while Mela added an assist of her own to help bolster the West Chester offense.
  • Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) earned the start in goal and played 46 minutes making six saves while surrendering just two goals before exiting in favor of Nicole Martins (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) who allowed just one goal in her 13 minutes of action.
  • West Chester also ended the contest with a 32-24 advantage in ground balls behind four ground ball performances from Brenna Lynch (Richboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Molly Reinhart (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson).
  • Additionally, the Golden Rams were nearly perfect on clears as they went 20-for-22 on the afternoon, however, the Rock did end the contest with a 14-8 advantage in draw controls.

West Chester will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon opposite Kutztown with that contest set to begin at 4 p.m.
