Softball Cruises Past Notre Dame College 8-0 in Five Innings

CLERMONT, Fl.- Looking to run its winning streak to seven games, the West Chester University softball team (7-5) was back in action on Saturday morning against the Notre Dame College Falcons (0-4). West Chester used some early offense to cruise to an 8-0 victory over the Falcons in five innings.

How it Happened:
  • In the home half of the first, West Chester jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) delivered a sac fly to score Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and advance Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) to third base with just one out. West Chester doubled its lead moments later as Jaime Klemas (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) reached on a fielding error, which scored Maseth to give the Golden Rams an early 2-0 lead.
  • West Chester kept its offense going in the home half of the second as Hartman registered a two-RBI double to left center to plate Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Emily Kim (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), which increased the lead to 4-0. The lead grew moments later as Hartman came around to score after a single by stump and an ensuing poor throw from the Falcon center fielder, which made the score 5-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.
  • In the bottom of the third, Tori McCoach (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell-Egan) got things started with a single down the right-field line before being pinch run for by Elizabeth Moore (Northampton, Pa./Northampton). Moore proceeded to use some very smart base running to move into scoring position, thus, enabling her to score when Kim reached on a fielding error by the short stop to run the score to 6-0. Kim followed this up with some smart baserunning of her own to also move into scoring position, which paid dividends when Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) delivered an RBI single through the left side to plate Kim and make the score 7-0. Stump followed this up with an RBI single of her own, which plated Maseth to give West Chester an 8-0 lead heading to the fourth inning of play.
  • Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) was sharp in the circle once again this morning as she went the distance for the purple and gold scattering just three hits while striking out three to earn her team-leading fourth victory of the spring.
Up Next:
West Chester will look to continue its winning ways later this morning opposite a familiar foe in Fairmont State with that contest set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
