WEST CHESTER, Pa.- On the heels of a convincing 8-0 victory over Notre Dame College earlier in the morning, the West Chester University softball team (8-5) was back in action opposite Fairmont State in search of its eighth consecutive victory. This contest remained close throughout but timely hitting from junior
Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md./Westminster) proved to be enough to lift West Chester to a 3-1 victory.
How it Happened:
- In the third inning, West Chester scored the first run of the contest after Maseth registered a two-out single to score sophomore teammate Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep), which gave the purple and gold a 1-0 lead midway through the contest.
- Maseth continued her strong afternoon during the home half of the sixth as she connected on a two-run home run to left, which also scored Hartman to give the Golden Rams a strong 3-0 lead.
- In the top of the seventh, Fairmont State got one run back, but it was not enough to complete the comeback as West Chester held on for a solid 3-1 victory to improve to 8-5 on the year.
- Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned the win in the circle going six innings surrendering just one run on five hits before exiting for Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) who closed out the victory to earn the save.
Up Next:
West Chester will be off tomorrow before squaring off against Molloy in a doubleheader on Monday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
