MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The West Chester University women's tennis team swept Millersville University 7-0 on the road on Wednesday afternoon to give the Golden Rams their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division title in the last five years.
WCU, the No. 6 team in today's NCAA DII Atlantic Region rankings, moved to 11-5 overall following Wednesday's sweep of the Marauders and the victory secures the fourth undefeated conference mark (5-0) for WCU in the last four seasons. With Wednesday's win, West Chester has defeated Millersville in each of their last six meetings and the Golden Rams now hold an 8-2 mark against the Marauders in their last 10 outings overall. On the other side of the court, Millersville dropped to 8-15 (2-2 PSAC) with the loss ahead of its season-ending matchup against Shippensburg on April 24.
The tandem of
Rylee Power (NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA/MARPLE NEWTOWN) and
Alyssa Skulsky (CHURCHVILLE, PA/COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH) started the day with a hard-fought 7-6 victory over Katina Jones and Jasmine Morris at first flight to give the WCU duo their team-leading 11th victory of the season and an unblemished mark against conference opponents (6-0) in 2019. Appearing in the final regular-season conference match of her career, Power's two victories on Wednesday moved the senior's singles record against PSAC East competition to 21-0 and pushed her doubles mark versus the division to 20-1 across her four years with the Purple & Gold.
The Golden Rams secured the doubles point on Wednesday with a 6-2 victory at second flight by
Danisa Erriad (JAKARTA, INDONESIA/ES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL) and
Leandra Roelker (
ALLENTOWN, PA./SALISBURY).
Up 1-0, the Golden Rams made quick work of the Marauders in singles action, as West Chester won each of the six contests in straight sets to secure the 7-0 sweep on Wednesday.
