No. 7 West Chester Downs No. 25 IUP, 18-9; Claims PSAC Regular-Season Title

INDIANA, Pa. – Seventh-ranked West Chester University went on the road in its final regular-season contest to easily outdistance No. 25 Indiana (Pa.), 18-9, to win its second straight and 17th overall Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular-season title Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (15-2, 11-1 PSAC) finished one game better than second-place East Stroudsburg and will host the 2019 PSAC Tournament semifinals and finals on Friday, May 3 and Sunday, May 5. East Stroudsburg, which was idle on Saturday, captured the other first-round bye and will join West Chester in the semifinals at the end of next week.

Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) scored four goals and assisted on two others while Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) added a hat trick to lead the offensive charge. Trisha Baud (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) added a hat trick and four points off the bench, and Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scored a pair of goals and assisted on a pair of others.

IUP looked as though it might claim its second major upset on home turf this season when the Crimson Hawks took a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. However, West Chester regrouped and put up eight unanswered goals to take a commanding, 8-3 lead. The Hawks responded with a pair of goals to close out the first half. But, that was as close as the home team would get.

The two sides traded goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half when West Chester then busted out another deflating 8-0 run that put the game away. McKinney started the run in the first half with the Golden Rams' first goal at 20:31, and Morrissey opened up the second-half surge with a marker at the 20:26 mark.

Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) made eight saves to improve to 15-2 on the season in the cage.
