No. 5 West Chester Doubles Up No. 25 Seton Hill In NCAA First Round Contest, 20-10

Post-Game Press Conference

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Seniors Maggie Stella (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Sami Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) combined to score 10 goals in leading fifth-ranked West Chester University to a 20-10 victory over No. 25 Seton Hill in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Vonnie Gros Field Friday.

West Chester (18-2) jumped on Seton Hill (11-9) early and never let up en route to the win. The Golden Rams advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second year in a row and will play East Stroudsburg, which defeated Mercyhurst, 12-8, in the other first round matchup in the Atlantic Regional being held at Vonnie Gros Field.

"It was a good ole team effort today," West Chester head coach Ginny Martino said afterwards. "Everybody, from our goalkeeper, (Julianne Clemens), who made nine saves today, right through. (Clemens) came up big for us today. She played great. We had some really great connections through our midfield, too."

West Chester limited Seton Hill's senior forward Makenzie Kilduff to just one goal. In last week's PSAC semifinal, Kilduff torched the Golden Rams for seven goals.

"We just had to play tighter defense on her," Martino said. "She is a great player, and great players are going to get their goals. We just had to limit her chances."

Stella finished with six goals on the afternoon while Barnett added four. Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) netted a hat trick while Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) potted a pair for herself.

So., GK Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) made nine saves in the win.
