No. 1 West Chester Drops OT Thriller At No. 22 Wilmington

No. 1-ranked West Chester University men's soccer lost 2-1 in overtime against No. 22 Wilmington. West Chester was trailing for the majority of the match until junior Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) scored in the final minute of regulation to tie the match. Overtime was short-lived, however, as Wilmington scored in the first minute to win the match.
 
How it Happened:
  • Wilmington took an early lead, scoring in the third minute of competition. Wilmington maintained the lead for 87 minutes.
  • Goitia's goal that forced overtime came with 15 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • The Wildcats responded quickly in OT, only taking 24 seconds to score the game-winner.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Wilmington outshot West Chester 17-8. The Wildcats also led the Golden Rams 10-4 in corner kicks.
  • Goitia's goal was his second of the season.
