No. 16 West Chester Defeats Millersville, 48-7

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior QB Paul Dooley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill) ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another, and the Golden Rams' defense limited host Millersville to just 179 yards of total offense, as visting West Chester cruised to a 48-7 victory Saturday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium.

West Chester (4-0, 1-0 PSAC) opened conference play with its 17th straight win over Millersville (1-3, 0-1) and 70th overall in a series that dates back to 1920. Head Coach Bill Zwaan remained undefeated against the Marauders, upping his record to 16-0 since he took over the Purple & Gold.

Dooley scampered 50 yards for the first score of the game on West Chester's first possession. That set the tone for the rest of the afternoon as the visitors jumped out to a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. He threw a 10-yard TD strike to Dan Neuhaus (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) just before halftime, and he then scored on a 10-yard QB draw up the middle in the third quarter.

Millersville didn't get on the scoreboard until a minute into the fourth quarter. That TD ended a string of 119 scoreless minutes posted by the Golden Rams' top-ranked defense in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

The Marauders finished the day with just seven yards rushing as a team. The Golden Rams rushed for 245 yards and five touchdowns.

Dooley led all rushers with 77 yards on 10 carries and the two touchdowns. He was 14-for-24 for 164 through the air with the TD and an interception. Lex Rosario (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley) led all receivers with four catches for 72 yards.

DE Michael Gobora (Newtown, Pa./Pennsbury) registered five tackles, including one sack, and forced a fumble in his first career start. West Chester, which sacked Millersville's QB's 10 times in last year's encounter at Farrell Stadium, dropped the Marauders' signal callers five times Saturday. The Golden Rams' stop unit also forced three fumbles, picked off a pass and was credited with a QB hurry.

Five of Millersville's first six drives ended in a punt without a first down.

West Chester travels to Shippensburg next Saturday for another PSAC showdown with the Red Raiders at Seth Grove Stadium.
