#4 Men's Soccer Sinks Jefferson In Overtime

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 4-ranked West Chester University men's soccer team opened up the 2019 season in style with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory in overtime against Jefferson University on Thursday.

West Chester quickly fell behind 2-0 but battled back to tie the game at 2-2 in the second half. It took the Golden Rams less than a minute to complete the comeback in OT.
 
How it happened:
  • Jefferson took control early in the first half, scoring two goals within the first seven minutes of play to take a 2-0 lead.
  • West Chester scored in the 22nd minute on a goal by junior Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East). Junior Colin Muller (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty) assisted the goal, cutting the deficit to one.
  • Golden Rams junior Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) tied the game early in the second half on an assist from freshman Matt Stevenson (Lansdale, Pa. / Pennridge). The goal took place in the 49th minute.
  • Within the first minute of overtime, sophomore Eric Greer (Chadds Ford, Pa.) scored on a Cameron Peploe (Northampton, Pa. / Northampton Area) assist to give the Golden Rams the win, defeating Jefferson 3-2.
Inside the Numbers:
  • West Chester outshot Jefferson by a margin of 20-6, including seven shots on goal versus Jefferson's three. The Golden Rams also had a large 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Up Next:

The Golden Rams travel to Wilmington, Del., next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup with Wilmington University.
