SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - West Chester University women's basketball lost at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division's first place team in Shippensburg University, 83-61, on Wednesday night.
A layup from freshman
Leah Johnson (Columbus, N.J. / Notre Dame) had the Golden Rams (8-13 overall, 6-10 PSAC) ahead 12-9 with 3:09 left in the first quarter. However, they gave up that lead 1:59 later and never regained it.
WCU freshman forward
Sasha Marvel (Medford Lakes, N.J. / Caravel Academy) had a team-high 15 points to go along with a season-high six steals, which is the most in a game for any West Chester player this season. She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in 34 minutes on the court.
Redshirt senior
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa. / Louis E. Dieruff) added 12 points and leads the Golden Rams at 12.2 per game this season.
The loss leaves West Chester in seventh place in the PSAC East, one spot short of where they'll need to be to make the postseason. However, the Golden Rams still have six games remaining on their regular season schedule.
West Chester's next game is next Wednesday, February 12 at 5:30 p.m. against Shepherd University. WCU lost 68-65 at home against Shepherd on January 3.
The Golden Rams are at home again on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m. against Bloomsburg University, which is the team that sits one spot ahead of them in the standings. West Chester beat Bloomsburg 74-64 on the road on January 25.
