Maseth Breaks Career Doubles Record as West Chester Sweeps Walsh

GREENSBURG, Pa. Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) became the program leader in career doubles as West Chester swept Walsh University in neutral site softball on Wednesday. Following their 5-0 and 9-1 victories, the Golden Rams move to 11-3 on the season while the Cavaliers fall to 10-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE:
  • The freshmen had all the fun in game one. Freshman outfielder Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N. J. / Seneca) hit a lead-off double in the bottom of the first. Freshman catcher Trisha Kopinetz (Pine Grove, Pa. / Pine Grove) followed up with a double of her own to score Melvin, giving West Chester the lead.
  • Melvin would earn an RBI of her own in the bottom of the second. Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) got on base with a two-out single. Hartman then proceeded to steal second base before getting batted in on a fielder's choice from Melvin.
  • Freshman Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del. / Lake Forest) jumped in on the fun in the sixth inning. Following back-to-back singles to start the inning, Aguilar smacked a three-run home run to left field, scoring Jaime Klemas (South Brunswick, N.J. / South Brunswick) and Caroline Adams (Media, Pa. / Renaissance Academy) to solidify West Chester's 5-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO:
  • Klemas got the Golden Rams on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, scoring Kopinetz.
  • Walsh got on board in the top of the second with a solo home run. The home run tied the game at 1-1 but would be the only hit for the Cavaliers on the game.
  • The Golden Rams retook the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs. Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa. / Kutztown) hit an RBI-double to left field, scoring Klemas. The next batter would be Olivia Mock (Clifton, Va. / Paul V. Catholic), who hit a two-RBI single to score Aguilar and Stump, giving West Chester a 4-1 lead.
  • A five-run fourth inning sealed the deal for the Golden Rams. Maseth revved up the scoring train with a two-RBI single to score Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) and Melvin. Kiley Watson (Perkasie, Pa. / Pennridge) then scored while Klemas reached on an error. Aguilar and Mock would wrap up scoring for the Golden Rams, having both hit RBI-singles to score Adams and Klemas, respectively.
  • Maegen Kavanagh (Easton, Pa. / Easton) pitched a one-two-three fifth inning to close the book on West Chester's five-inning 9-1 victory over Walsh.
