WEST CHESTER, Pa. West Chester softball opened their regular season home schedule today by sweeping Jefferson in a double header. The Golden Rams won game one 5-0 and game two 8-0. Following the victories, West Chester improves to 7-3 on the season while Jefferson is now 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE:
- West Chester struck first in the bottom of the first as Emily Maseth (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) hit an RBI-double to score Trisha Kopinetz (Pine Grove, Pa. / Pine Grove).
- The Golden Rams extended their lead in fifth as back-to-back RBI doubles from Kopinetz and Maseth scored Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) and pinch-runner Caroline Adams (Media, Pa. / Renaissance Academy).
- Starting pitcher Reilly Gearhart (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township) cruised the rest of the way and ended the day with a complete game shutout, earning a 5-0 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO:
- After two scoreless innings, West Chester got on board in the bottom of the third as Maseth scored Garber on a single to right center field.
- Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N. J. / Seneca) increased West Chester's lead in the fourth as she hit a two-RBI single to right field to score Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del. / Lake Forest) and Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep).
- Kopinetz hit her fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning to score Garber and give West Chester a 5-0 lead.
- Tori McCoach (Langhorne, Pa. / Conwell-Egan) ended the game in walk off fashion in the bottom of the sixth as she hit a three-run home run to end the game 8-0. Peighton Hornick (Marietta, Pa. / Donegal) and Amanda Heins (Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley) scored on the home run.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME ONE:
- Gearhart pitched 10-strikeout gem to earn the complete game shutout. Gearhart kept baserunners to a minimum, only allowing two hits and two walks.
- Maseth and Kopinetz went a combined 4-for-6 with four doubles and all three of West Chester's RBI's.
- Garber batted 2-for-4 with one run scored.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME TWO:
- Maegen Kavanagh (Easton, Pa. / Easton) pitched a six-inning complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and zero hits.
- Garber went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two stolen bases, and one walk.
- Kopinetz hit 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI's.
- McCoach hit a three-RBI walk off home run in her only plate appearance.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Maseth's two doubles on the day has tied her with Beth Frey for the most career doubles in program history.
- Garber is now one hit away from tying West Chester's all-time hits record, set by Erin MacNamee.
- Kavanagh has now pitched complete game shutouts in two consecutive games.
- West Chester pitchers have now pitched for a combined 21-inning scoreless streak.
