WEST CHESTER, PA -
Becca Heffner scored the game's lone goal with 3:50 left in the first half lifting visiting East Stroudsburg to a 1-0 victory over host West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey match at Vonnie Gros Field Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (10-3, 5-2 PSAC) applied pressure in the fourth quarter, but East Stroudsburg (12-3, 6-1) goalkeeper Amy Supey came up with three big saves to preserve the one-goal advantage.
Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad), coming off a hat trick one week ago, took two heavy shots off corners in the fourth that were kicked away by Supey.
Valerie Van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands) took a reverse chip that was steered away as well.
West Chester outshot East Stroudsburg by a 16-2 margin - including a 12-0 advantage in the second half. However, Supey was equal to the task with seven saves.
Claudia Jaszczak (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) got past her defender late in the fourth quarter, but shot wide on her attempt.
