WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Following a crucial PSAC victory over Millersville, the West Chester women's volleyball team (17-5) returned home on Saturday afternoon to host Lincoln in a non-league clash. West Chester swept its guests (25-17, 25-11, 25-10) to take the match by a final of 3-0.
In the first set, Lincoln jumped out to an early 7-2 lead but West Chester was unaffected as the Golden Rams answered with a 9-2 run to make the score 11-9 early in the set. Lincoln countered and had the opening set tied at 12-12 but this would be the final time the set would be tied as the Golden Rams closed the match on a 13-4 run to earn the 25-17 opening set victory.
After its first set comeback victory, West Chester spent little time in taking its lead as the Purple and Gold raced out to an early 8-3 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-11 second set triumph.
In the third set, West Chester got out to an early lead once again, taking seven of the first 10 points of the match to lead 7-3 early in the set. With the score of 13-7 and Lincoln still within striking distance, West Chester went on a 9-1 run to take a commanding 22-8 lead en route to the 25-10 third set victory and 3-0 match win.
Olivia Rudjord (Fogelsville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) led the way for West Chester with 10 kills and one block while
Sarah Polacek (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) recorded nine kills to rank second on the squad in the victory.
Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) led the team in aces with three in the victory while also leading the squad in digs with eight.
Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) contributed in her usual way with a team-high 36 assists over the course of the three-set triumph.
West Chester will continue its homestand next Friday evening vs Lock Haven with that contest set to begin at 7 p.m.
