WILMINGTON, Del.- The West Chester men's soccer team (8-2-2) took to the road on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league tilt vs Goldey Beacom (3-11-0). West Chester and Goldey Beacom headed to the halftime break tied at 1-1 but it was a mid-second half tally, which lifted West Chester to the 2-1 non-league victory.
In the 20
th minute,
Kresstoph Whittick (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) opened the scoring for West Chester, taking control of a long pass from
Trevor Looby (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) to give West Chester an early 1-0 advantage.
Goldey-Beacom did not trail for long as the host Lightning responded with a goal of their own in the 28
th minute to even the score at 1-1. The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, the contest remained tied through the opening 25 minutes of the half but
Jack Dieffenderfer (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) used a cross from
Landon Wenger (Gilberstville, Pa./Boyertown) in the 71
st minute to break the tie and give West Chester a 2-1 lead it would never relinquish.
West Chester ended the game with a 16-11 advantage in shots (8-5 shots on goal) and a 7-3 edge in corners en route to the victory.
In goal,
Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) got the start and went the distance between the pipes, making four saves over the course of his 90 minutes to limit the Goldey-Beacom offense.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at home against Shippensburg with that contest set to begin at 2:30 on Rockwell Field.
