Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mens Soccer Gets Huge Conference Win Against Shippensburg

WEST CHESTER, PA—West Chester Men's Soccer came to play today, as they came into Rockwell Field off a huge win earlier this week at Goldey-Beacom College. The Golden Rams welcomed another of their conference rivals in the Shippensburg Raiders to campus, as they looked to get yet another conference win in the standings. Doug Goitia (Senior / Mount Pocono, PA / Pocono Mountain East) opened up the scoring early, as he and several other Golden Rams broke through the Raider defense, putting West Chester up 1-0 six minutes into the first half of play. West Chester continued to strike at the heart of Shippensburg's defensive unit, as they totaled nine first half shot attempts against the visiting Raiders. Just before halftime, Kresstoph Whittick (Sophomore / Whitehall, PA / Whitehall) managed to find the net with a great goal, sending the difference to 2-0, while capping off a fantastic first half performance by the Golden Rams. Not only that, but Shippensburg had a major red card call against them in the forty-third minute, forcing the Raiders to play with ten men for the rest of the game.

Come the second half, West Chester continued to take advantage of Shippensburg's breakdown of defense, as the Golden Rams had a total of 14 shots in the second half. The latter half of the game got quite physical, as Shippensburg and West Chester were going at it on the pitch to fight for the ball with everything they had. Craig Potts (Senior / Stewartstown, PA / Kennard-Dale) found the net in the seventy-second minute to make it 3-0, meanwhile ten minutes later, Connor Sullivan (Senior / Bensalem, PA, William Penn Charter) was awarded a penalty kick. Sullivan shortly after got it into the net, as it'd blow right through the Shippensburg goalkeeper to make it 4-0. The Golden Rams outshot the visiting Raiders in total by nineteen shots, which really showed up on the pitch today. At the end of play, the final score was West Chester 4, Shippensburg 0.

West Chester looks ahead to their next matchup this coming Wednesday at Bloomsberg University, where they look to finish their first of final two regular season matchups at 4:30 PM, before returning home to Rockwell Field for the final time this regular season to welcome Holy Family University at 2:30 PM.
