Goitia’s Penalty Kicks Lift West Chester Over Bloomsburg, 2-1

BLOOMSBURG, PA – Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) converted a pair of penalty kicks in the second half to erase a one-goal deficit and lift visiting West Chester to a 2-1 victory over host Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's soccer tilt at Steph Pettit Stadium.

West Chester (10-2-2,9-2-1 PSAC) finishes the regular season in a tie for first place in the PSAC East standings with Lock Haven. However, the Golden Rams will be the second seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. Bloomsburg (9-8-0, 5-6-0) will be the fourth seed in the playoffs.

Goitia tied the game at 1-all in the 62nd minute when his penalty kick beat Bloomsburg goalkeeper, Nathan Slotnick, to the right – low along the turf. His second PK, six minutes later, beat the keeper to the right again, but this time was in the air.  This goal also increased Goitia's career goal total to 29, which moved him into second-place in team history in career goals, passing Miguel Ross who was previously second with 28 career markers.

Bloomsburg's Liam Harmon had given the hosts the lead in the 13th minute of the game.

West Chester concludes its regular season on Saturday at home with a non-league contest against Holy Family. It will be Senior Day for the Golden Rams, who will honor this year's graduating seniors in a brief ceremony.
