LOCK HAVEN, PA - Sophomore RB
Ja'Den McKenzie (Morton, Pa./Springfield) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week for his performance against Bloomsburg on Saturday.
McKenzie rushed for 121 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. He averaged over five yards per carry in West Chester's 21-20 victory over the Huskies on Homecoming. However, the most impressive part of his performance came on West Chester's game-winning drive with four minutes left and the Golden Rams trailing by six. West Chester called nine consecutive running plays and marched 80 yards. Along the way, McKenzie toted the ball four times for 35 yards and picked up two crucial first downs to keep the drive alive.
It is the third such weekly award for West Chester's football squad, but the first handed out on the offensive side of the ball.
Michael Gobora (DE) and
Jackson Taylor (LB) were each honored on the defensive side earlier in the season.
West Chester (4-1, 2-0 PSAC) hits the road this weekend for a conference showdown at Shippensburg (4-1, 1-1).
