SHIPPENSBURG, PA - Three second-half goals opened up a close contest through 30 minutes between the top two ranked teams in the country Tuesday afternoon as host Shippensburg downed visiting West Chester, 4-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown at Robb Complex.
West Chester (8-2, 3-1 PSAC) suffered its first conference loss while Shippensburg (9-0, 4-0) remained undefeated on the season.
The Golden Rams were held to a season-low three shots on goal and just four penalty corner opportunities in the loss. The Raiders took 23 shots and 13 penalty corners. Jenna Sluymer scored twice for Shippensburg while Jazmin Petrantonio scored once and picked up a pair of assists. Tess Jedeloo scored the Raiders' other goal.
West Chester goalkeeper,
Claire Nielsen (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus), made nine saves. Grad student
Caitie McNamara (Buderim, Australia) was credited with a spectacular diving defensive save in the first half that kept the contest scoreless for the moment. She also took one of the Golden Rams' two shots.
Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) had the other two shots.
West Chester travels to Mercyhurst on Saturday.
