LOCK HAVEN, Pa-The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, released its women's volleyball All-Conference selections on Thursday afternoon. The West Chester women's volleyball team (22-8, 10-4 PSAC) had three players named to the All-Conference teams as
Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and
Julia Vreeswyk (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) secured First Team honors. At the same time,
Olivia Rudjord (Fogelsville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) earned a spot on the second team.
West Chester concluded its 2021 season earlier this week with a 3-0 setback in the PSAC Quarterfinals on the road at Shepherd, capping what an outstanding season for the Golden Rams. In addition to making their first PSAC Tournament appearance since the 2017 season, the Purple and Gold also posted the most wins they have had since their 24-win season in 2017.
Byrne had an outstanding rookie season on the floor for West Chester this year, playing in 102 sets over the course of 30 matches for the Golden Rams and logging a team-best 1010 assists on the year. This impressive assist total leads the Golden Rams and ranks third-best in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. In addition to her assists, Byrne also registered 68 kills, 43 blocks, and 28 aces to help bolster the West Chester offense throughout the season. Byrne was also a significant contributor defensively for West Chester, ending the season with 292 digs to rank second on the team in this category.
Vreeswyk had a great senior season of her own, appearing in 80 sets over the course of 24 matches and logging a team-best 268 kills. Averaging 3.35 kills per set, Vreeswyk ended her season ranked fifth in the league in this category. In addition to leading the team in kills, Vreeswyk also logged 49 blocks and 43 digs on the year.
The Golden Rams final All-Conference selection, Rudjord, turned in a great season of her own as she ended the year with the team lead in blocks with 95 over the course of her 104 sets played. These 95 blocks rank Rudjord seventh in the PSAC, while her .275 hitting percentage on the year ranks her ninth in the league in this category. For the season, Rudjord registered 243 kills (2.34/S) to rank just inside the top-15 in the league in kills while also providing 32 aces to provide excellent depth for the Golden Rams from the service line.
