Golden Rams Split DH With Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, PA - West Chester University's softball team split a doubleheader on the road against Lock Haven Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Rams came up short in the first game, 5-1, but bounced back in game two in extra innings, 7-4, in eight.
 
West Chester improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division on the season.
 
GAME ONE
  • Lock Haven put the first runs on the board when Summer Peters singled up the middle to bring in the RBI in the bottom of the second.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Eagles scored four runs. Morgan Karas singled up the middle to bring in one run for Lock Haven. Riley McClellan tripled to bring in two more, and Sydney Arrigale walked to put them up by four.
  • In the top of the seventh, freshman Asia Barnard (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed senior Jamie Klemas (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) to score one run for the Golden Rams.
 
GAME TWO
  • The Lady Eagles were the first to put up runs in the game two, after Madison Math reached on a fielder's choice to score a run.
  • In the fourth inning, sophomore Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) hit a triple and scored on an error to right field to bring the score to 1-1.
  • Sophomore Trisha Kopinetz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth that put the Golden Rams ahead 3-1.
  • Lock Haven tied the game 3-3 with a single and double up the middle in its half of the fifth
  • In the top of seventh Kopinetz hit a sacrifice fly to bring senior Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) home to put the Golden Rams up 4-3.
  • The Lady Eagles answered in the bottom of the seventh with a home run to tie it 4-4 and send the game into extra innings.
  • Barnard singled in the first run in the eighth, 5-4. Sophomore Kate Rittenbaugh (Donaldson, Pa./Pine Grove) singled in another run for West Chester to extend the lead to 6-4.
  • Hartman hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring in the last run of the night for the Purple & Gold.
 
INSIDE THE STATS| GAME ONE
  • Sophomore Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, NJ./Seneca) and fifth-year senior Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) both stole a base for WCU.
  • Mary Picozzi struck out two.
 
INSIDE THE STATS| GAME TWO
  • Freshman Anna Torrens (Holmes, Pa./Ridley) and senior Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./ Cumberland Valley) struck out five for the Golden Rams to help seal the win.
  • Kopinetz hit her fifth home run of the season.
  • Four Golden Rams stole bases for win in the second game.
 The Golden Rams are back on the road on Thursday against Bloomsburg University. Games are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
