EAST STROUDSBURG, PA –
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) eached registered a hat trick, and
Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) turned away nine shots in a battle of two of the top goalkeepers in the conference, as No. 5 West Chester topped No. 11 East Stroudsburg, 14-9, in a pivotal Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division showdown at Eiler-Martin Stadium on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (3-0, 3-0 PSAC East) remains perfect overall and within conference play while East Stroudsburg (3-1, 2-1) dropped its first contest of the year.
The Golden Rams outscored the Warriors, 6-1, over the final 15 minutes of the contest that turned a see-saw 8-8 clash into a 14-9 victory. Monigle scored two of her three during the decisive run while fifth-year senior
Tara Morrissey (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) netted both of her goals in the game in that span.
Stanislawcyzk's second goal of the game to open the second half ballooned the visitor's lead to 8-4, and it looked like the Golden Rams were in control. However, ESU was not done, yet. Shannon Dent and Emily Mitaronda each scored back-to-back tallies to even things up at 8-all. That is when Clemens all but shut the door on the hosts the rest of the way. Morrissey picked up three of her four points on the afternoon during the final 15.
Back-to-back down goals from
Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) and Morrissey slapped an exclamation point on the 4-0 run over the final six minutes. All told, West Chester scored three goals down a player and another with the advantage.
Both Altman and
Trisha Baud (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) finished with a pair of goals and a pair of assists for a four-point effort.
Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) scored a pair of goals as well.
Lexi Einsig (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) scooped up five ground balls, and
Drew McKinney (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) collected three draw controls.
West Chester travels to Bloomsburg on Saturday for a 2 p.m. PSAC East match with the Huskies.
