WEST CHESTER, PA – Tatum Altman (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) scored three goals and added three assist, and
Trisha Baud (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored four goals and finished with five points to lead No. 5 West Chester to a 16-8 victory over visiting Shippensburg at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (7-0, 7-0 PSAC) started strong, but Shippensburg (2-7, 2-6) seemed to make things tighter in the end.
Eight unanswered tallies at the end of the first half put the game out of reach by the break, 13-2. The Golden Rams' starting goalkeeper
Julianne Clemens (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) made one save as the majority of play was in Shippensburg's end. A big reason for the eight-goal run was Baud inside the faceoff circle. She created 11 of 16 draw controls for her side.
Graduate student,
Molly Reinhart (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) caused five turnovers in the contest, keeping most of the action away from her keeper all afternoon. She led a defense that forced 18 turnovers and harassed the Raiders into just a 9-for-13 effort clearing the ball.
Shippensburg fought back, holding a second-half edge in draw controls and free position shots. That led to the visitor's 6-2 run at the end of the game. However, it was not enough to overcome the huge hole they had dug for themselves.
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) registered a hat trick and finished with four points. Teammate
Kelly Baumann (South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) scored twice and had two assists for four points.
West Chester travels to Millersville on Wednesday for another PSAC East contest.
