KUTZTOWN, PA – Andrew Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) tossed a complete game in the nightcap, and
Zack Wright (Burlington, N.J./No. Burlington County) continued his hot hitting streak with a pair of extra-base hits and four RBI as visiting West Chester split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) baseball doubleheader at Kutztown Saturday.
West Chester (14-8, 14-8 PSAC East) dropped the opener, 5-2, but rallied with an 18-1 victory in game two, taking three of four from Kutztown (17-17, 11-17) in the weekend series.
The Golden Rams broke open game two with an eight-run fourth, highlighted by
Hunter Hall's (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) three-run homer. After single tallies in the fifth and sixth, West Chester plated seven more in the seventh for extra measure.
Cantwell (2-1) scattered six hits over seven innings, yielding only one run. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Wright finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run and a stolen base. He went a combined 10-for-16 in the weekend series against the Golden Bears with 10 RBI and four stolen bases.
Justin Horn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) went 2-for-2 with three RBI in the nightcap as well.
Brian Verratti (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) went 1-for-2 with both of the team's RBI in the opener. His two-run single up the middle in the fifth put West Chester on top, 2-0. However, Kutztown answered with two to tie in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on three in the sixth to salvage one game in the series.
