SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -
Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) went a combined 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI, but homestanding Shepherd answered West Chester's sweep two days earlier with a doubleheader sweep of its own at Fairfax Field Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.
West Chester (8-4, 8-4 PSAC East) split the season series with Shepherd (9-7, 9-7) as a result of the sweep.
Justin Horn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) hit a three-run homer in the nightcap and finished 3-for-4 in that contest. But, it was not enough to overcome Shepherd, which rallied for four runs in the fourth and fifth innings each to pull away late in game two. The Rams smashed four home runs in the second game.
Culver Hughes (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) suffered the loss in game one on the hill. He falls to 2-1 on the year after yielding 10 runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. He walked three and struck out five. But, he hit four batters as well.Â
Jack Slade (McLean, Va./McLean) lasted 4.1 innings in the nightcap. He falls to 2-1 on the year as well after surrendering nine runs on seven hits. He walked seven and struck out five.Â
West Chester hosts East Stroudsburg at Maple Zone next Friday afternoon at 12 p.m.
