SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV – Fifth-year senior Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) set the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) all-time hits record in helping West Chester to a 9-3 series-clinching win on the road at Shepherd Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Rams started off the game with a single to right field from sophomore Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) to score a run for West Chester in the top of the second. The Rams answered in the bottom of the third with a home run to left field by Isabella Forte for two RBIs. In the top of the fourth innings, Garber broke the PSAC all-time hits record with a double to left field to tie the game 2-2. Sophomore Haleigh Karcher (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) tripled to center field to score a run for the Purple & Gold in the top of the fifth. Senior Annamarie Hartman (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) ended the fifth with a fly out to center field and bring a runner home for WCU. The top of the sixth inning opened with a single to left field by senior Courtney Stump (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) allowing the Golden Rams to score on a throwing error and make their lead 6-2. Another run scored by Karcher on a reach from a fielding error to end the first half of the sixth inning. Shepherd's Allison Baker scored a run for the Rams on a WCU throwing error in the bottom of the sixth. To round out the game for West Chester, Stump singled down the left field line to score the final run of the game, WCU 9-3.
Senior Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) pitched all seven innings and one inning for the Golden Rams, improving her season record to 11-4.
The Golden Rams will play a best-of-3 series at Kutztown beginning on Sunday, May 9. The doubleheader on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. If one game is necessary, it will be played Monday at 1p.m.
