ASTON, PA. - Senior
Braeden Fausnaught (Danville, Pa./Danville) had ten strikeouts in seven innings on Friday afternoon at Maple Zone Sports Complex as West Chester split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) baseball doubleheader at home against Lock Haven.
The Golden Rams are now 18-10 overall and 18-10 in the PSAC East Division with only two regular season games left to play.
GAME ONE
- In the bottom of the first, junior Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) hit a fly out to right center field to bring home a runner and put the Golden Rams ahead 1-0.
- Lock Haven's Jake Mastill had a fly out to right field where he was able to grab an RBI and tie the game 1-1.
- Junior Mike Ferrara (Jamison Pa./Archbishop Wood/UNC-Greensboro) hit a home run to left center field to bring in two more runs for WCU in the bottom of the third.
- The Bald Eagles scored three runs in the top of the fifth off of two doubles to right center field and fly out. Ending the fifth inning ahead, 4-3.
- In the top of the seventh, Lock Haven extended their lead with three more runs from reaching on a fielding error, single to right field, and force run scored by a hit by pitch to make the score, 7-3.
- The Golden Rams attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with two home runs from senior Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and Ferrara but came up short, 7-6.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME ONE
- Ferrara totaled for four RBIs on the game and leads the team with nine home runs this season.
- Senior Culver Hughes (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) pitched six innings for the Golden Rams and three strikeouts.
GAME TWO
- Lock Haven opened up game two with a single to right field from Issac Porter for the lead, 1-0.
- Senior Justin Horn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) hit a fly out in the bottom of the first to bring in a runner for WCU to tie the game, 1-1.
- In the bottom of the second, junior JR Gifford (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) singled through the right side for an RBI.
- Freshman Zach Miles (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn/Lehigh) singled through the left side in the bottom of the fourth and the Golden Rams went on to win the game, 3-1.
INSIDE THE STATS | GAME TWO
- Fausnaught with ten strikeouts in game two, tallies for 48 strikeouts this season for West Chester.
- Horn, Miles, and Gifford all had one RBI for the game.
The Golden Rams hit the road Saturday morning to play the next two games in the series against Lock Haven at Watkins Field. Games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
