WEST CHESTER, PA – Playing its second match in as many days, West Chester's women's volleyball team rallied to capture three straight sets after dropping the opener to claim a 3-1 victory over visiting Millersville in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both schools.
West Chester (8-3, 1-0 PSAC) dropped the first set, 25-20, but once again, rallied for the win taking the next three sets by scores of 25-15, 28-26 and 25-15. The Golden Rams dropped the first set against Wilmington one night earlier, but came back for the road win.
Olivia Rudjord (Fogelsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) posted a match-high 18 kills and added six blocks and six digs to pace the Golden Rams in the win. West Chester held Millersville to a .099 hitting percentage in the match thanks in large part to Rudjord's presence in the middle. The Rams finished with 11 blocks in the match. She hit .394 in the four sets and was responsible for 21.5 points.
Grace Whitney (Glenside, PA/Abington) and
Sarah Polacek (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) each contributed 11 kills, and
Julia Vreeswyk (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) added nine. The win ended a personal three-match losing streak to Millersville, picking up West Chester's first win over the Marauders since 2018.
Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded 44 assists and 14 digs while Libero
Sydney Heffner (Bath, PA/Northampton) chipped in 15 digs.
