MILLERSVILLE, PA – Millersville converted a penalty stroke with just over one minute left to play in the game as the host Marauders defeated visiting West Chester, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field hockey tilt at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium Wednesday evening.
West Chester (8-1, 2-1 PSAC) dropped its first contest of the season while Millersville (9-1, 2-0) moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings as a result of the victory.
West Chester struck first in the 21st minute when
Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad) banged home a second-chance opportunity through traffic to put the Golden Rams on top, 1-0. It was the back's fourth goal of the season.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Millersville picked things up after halftime and earned the equalizer on a tally from Kate Strickland in the 48th minute. Kristin Strijdom converted a penalty stroke in the 59th minute to seal the upset for the host Marauders.
The win for Millersville ended a five-game losing streak to West Chester in the all-time series and marked the Marauders first win over the Golden Rams since 2017.

Megan Gula (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) (8-1) suffered her first career loss in the cage. She made four saves. Her counterpart, Kerstin Koons (9-1) made three saves for the Marauders.
West Chester travels to Frostburg State on Sunday at 5 p.m. for a non-league contest.
