Box Score WILIMINGTON, DE – The West Chester men's soccer squad (7-3-2) traveled to Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday afternoon for some non-conference league play against Wilmington University (8-2-4) but fell short to the Wildcats 1-0.
The last time the Golden Rams met the Wildcats,
Kresstoph Whittick (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) helped end the match in a 1-1 double overtime draw last season. Wednesday's matchup was a simialrly close affair as West Chester and Wilmington battled throughout the contest but it was a second-half tally by the Wildcats, which made the difference in the 1-0 setback on Wednesday evening.
West Chester started off the first 45 applying pressure to the Wilmington defense, after
Frankie Taylor (Delran, NJ/Delran) took a shot in the second minute that was saved by Wilmington goalie, Bas Markus. The Wildcats answered back, putting West Chester goalie,
Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) on the spot four more times in the first half.
Heading into the halftime break scoreless, Wilmington had a lead-up on West Chester taking eight shots to the Golden Rams' five, along with five corners to West Chester's one.
Wilmington broke the 0-0 score in the 66th minute after Malthe Hannesbo scored off a double assist to put the Wildcats in the lead 1-0, which would eventually go on to claim their victory.
For the remainder of the match, West Chester took three shots on the Wildcats and marked five corners, while Good made an additional save for the Golden Rams. Wilmington took eight shots on West Chester and recorded four corners in the second half.
UP NEXT: The men will return to action at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15th as they head to Lancaster, Pa. for their second match this season against PSAC East rivals, Millersville.
