EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) engineered a late touchdown drive that gave visiting West Chester a thrilling 24-21 victory over host East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
West Chester (4-3, 2-2 PSAC East) snapped a two-game losing streak while picking up its ninth straight win over East Stroudsburg (2-5, 1-3). The Golden Rams have now won 17 of the last 20 meetings with the Warriors.
Jordan connected with tight end
Thatcher Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) from 15 yards out with 16 seconds left in the contest to earn the win. It was the freshman QB's first fourth-quarter, game-winning drive. Jordan finished with 133 yards rushing 12 carries – the most yards rushing by a quarterback in a game since A.J. Long went for 135 in the 2018 PSAC Championship Game. Through the air, Jordan completed 7 of 16 for 62 yards, including two fourth-quarter TD passes.
Trailing 14-10 entering the final 15 minutes of play, West Chester gave Jordan the ball on East Stroudsburg's 35-yard line. It took him six plays to find
D'Shaun Seals (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) in the middle of the end zone to put the visitors on top, 17-14.
ESU answered back with a scoring drive of its own to reclaim the lead at 21-17. However, Jordan worked his magic one more time, taking the Golden Rams 58 yards on 13 plays, capped by Miller's 15-yard TD catch from Jordan.
Zach DeMarchis (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) led West Chester's defense with 12 tackles.
Jackson Taylor (Glenside, Pa./Abington) registered 1.5 sacks on seven tackles.
