WILMINGTON, Del.- The West Chester women's volleyball team (16-6) returned to action on Saturday afternoon at a Tri-match hosted by Goldey-Beacom, defeating Bridgeport and Goldey-Beacom by identical 3-0 final scores to improve to 16-6 on the season.

In the first set of the afternoon, West Chester and Bridgeport traded points early before the Golden Rams leapt out to a 10-5 advantage. West Chester used this early edge to find its way out to an 18-14 lead in the first set. Bridgeport rallied back to make it a set, trimming the Golden Ram lead to 22-21 but West Chester closed the set on a 3-0 run to take the opener by a 25-22 final.
After trailing for much of the second set, West Chester engineered a late run to come back and claim the set by a 25-23 final and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
West Chester jumped out to an early lead in the third set, going ahead 5-3 before Bridgeport answered back with a run of its own to take a 14-12 lead midway through the set. The final set remained close in the final moments but West Chester prevailed by a final of 26-24.
Brynn Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the way in kills with 11 while
Nicole Dimiris (Hockessin, Del./Saint Mark's) and Hailey Lewis (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) each added seven of their own in the victory.
Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) led the team in digs with 16 while also tying for the team lead in aces with one while
Jamie Byrne (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) chipped in 25 assists in the victory. Dimiris also finished with four blocks to lead the team in this category as West Chester improved to 15-6 on the year.

Goldey Beacom jumped out to an early lead in the first set, holding a slim 10-8 advantage before West Chester bounced back quickly with a pair of quick points to even the score at 10-10, West Chester continued its mid-set run, taking seven of the next 11 points to take a 17-14 lead late in the set. West Chester used this late advantage to earn a 25-17 first set victory and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was tight once again as well with neither side gaining a significant advantage until West Chester managed to pull away for a 25-18 second set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
With a 2-0 lead entering the third set, West Chester cruised in the final set, racing out to a 5-2 lead before extending this lead to 16-6, en route to a 25-9 third-set triumph and 3-0 match victory.
Lewis led the way in kills for West Chester in this match, finishing with 11 while
Tori Wright (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) registered nine of her own in the victory. Wright also registered a team-best five aces in the victory while the freshman duo of
Elise Smith (New Market, Md./Oakdale) and Dimiris tied for the team lead in blocks with four each. Byrne led the way in assists once again, finishing with 21 while Heffner registered nine digs in the three-set victory.
