WEST CHESTER, PA –
Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad) scored two goals, and
Morgan Becker (West Chester, Pa./East) tied a school record with four assists as top-ranked West Chester cruised to a 6-0 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Mercyhurst at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday.
West Chester (10-2, 3-2 PSAC) bounced back from a mid-week loss to Shippensburg with a solid effort against Mercyhurst (2-10, 0-4). Becker's four assists in the game tied a school record set by Kelsi Lykens against East Stroudsburg in 2013.
Four of West Chester's six tallies came off penalty corners while Becker had a hand in four of the team's six goals. Both of Spavlik's tallies were penalty corners as well.
The Golden Rams took 48 shots in the game – 32 of those on goal. Mercyhurst goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau made 26 saves.
Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored a goal and assisted on another.
Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) registered a pair of assists.
Valerie van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands),
Jasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and
Yasmine van Soest (Venlo, The Netherlands) each scored as well. Van Kuijck leads the team with 10 goals on the year. Miller scored her eighth of the season.
The Golden Rams held the Lakers without a shot, or a penalty corner opportunity, in the game.
West Chester returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to East Stroudsburg for a 2:30 pm tilt with the Warriors.
