EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – Twice West Chester tied the score in the second half, but host East Stroudsburg tallied a goal with 17 seconds left in the game to come away with a 3-2 victory at Whitenight Field Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (10-3, 3-3 PSAC) has suffered all three of its losses on a goal in the last minute of the contest with all three setbacks coming in its last five games. East Stroudsburg (12-1, 5-1) kept pace atop the conference standings with the late heroics.
ESU's Hanna Lewis notched her eighth of the season off an assist from Morgan Mesenbrink for the game-winner. That came 15 minutes after
Claudia Jaszczak (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) tied the game at 2-apiece with her eighth of the year.
Nicole Krozser had given the hosts a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute. However, Jaszczak's marker three minutes after that goal quickly squashed any momentum from which the Warriors were trying to build. The quick answer was what the Golden Rams were looking for. But, the visitors could not finish out a game for the third time in the last five outings.
ESU's Madison Kline struck first for the home team in the 20th minute for the lone goal of the first half. Eight minutes into the second half,
Valerie van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands) leveled the score off an assist from
Ella Shockley (Delmar, Del./Delmar). That sparked a spurt of three goals between the two teams over the next seven minutes.
Megan Gula (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made three saves in the game. Her counterpart, Amy Supey, made six stops.
