Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Barnett and Stanislawczyk Power No. 5 West Chester Past Mercyhurst, 14-6

WEST CHESTER, PAKeri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored five goals, and Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) added four of her own, as fifth-ranked West Chester downed visiting Mercyhurst, 14-6, in a non-league women's lacrosse match at Vonnie Gos Field Sunday afternoon.

West Chester (1-0) scored seven unanswered goals in the first half, after yielding the game's first goal to Mercyhurst (0-1). The Lakers' tally was the only shot they took in the first quarter. Sunday's season opener marked the first time that the Golden Rams played a four-quarter game. The NCAA moved to four quarters this spring.

Barnett, Stanislawczyk and Lindsey Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) each tallied goals with the extra attacker for the Golden Rams. Monigle orchestrated the offense from the "X" and finished with four assists, in addition to the EMO goal, to post a five-point game as well. Stanislawczyk also dished out one assist to finish the day with five points.

Meghan Cull (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls. She scored a goal as well. Barnett and Stanislawczyk also led the way on draw controls with five each. Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) scored twice, and Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) added another.

Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) got the start in the cage and made two saves to pick up the win. Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) played the final 12 minutes making three more saves. Mercyhurst's Kaitlyn Lippert made 12 saves in the loss. The Lakers were led by Victoria Gottorff's two tallies. Four others each tallied once.

West Chester returns to Vonnie Gros Field on Saturday, March 12 for another non-league contest against Adelphi at 1 p.m.
